Preview: 5 Rhythms dance and movement, The Junction/Homerton College Dance Studios, Dec 2006

5 rhythms - copyright christian de souza5 Rhythms is an improvised dance and movement practice designed by Gabrielle Roth to release the dancer in each of us. The Rhythms are: Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness. Like a map, the rhythms point the dancer to ways of discovering and exploring his or her own physical energy, body awareness and inner wisdom, through the simple pleasure of moving to music.

There are no steps to learn, and no prior knowledge of dance is required. All movement in the dance is just what feels personally right in the moment of doing it. 5 Rhythms is a simple, yet satisfying and powerful practice that anyone can do, whatever your experience, fitness or income level.

Practical details: wear loose clothing and bring plenty of drinking water.  Most dancers go barefoot, but non-marking, clean soled trainers, dance shoes or ballet pumps are fine too. A fleece or wrap is useful to stay warm after dancing.

1, 8 and 22 Dec, 7.45-10.15pm at The Junction with guest teachers, £12; untaught session 3 Dec, 11am-1pm at Homerton College Dance Studio, £7 – see MTN what’s on listings for full details.

Further information about the 5 Rhythms practice and philosophy can be found at www.5rhythmsuk.com
