SMALL WORLD – BIG HEART

It's all go this week, with the Heart of the World Festival in full swing and the Cambridge Band Competition grand final back at its old venue, Cambridge Corn Exchange on Friday 9 May. Should be quite an occasion. The Heart of the World Festival has thus far brought us everything from African pop to Tibetan monks, but there's still time to explore some of its world music treats with a Tibetan Singing bowl concert at on Saturday 11 and a whole day of free workshops, dancing and entertainment for all ages at the Heart of the World Family Day (12.00-4.00pm, Cambridge Guildhall). Don't miss out! A quick word, too for Cath Coombs and the Awesome Soul Collective, who will be participating in a day of music at The Locomotive, Cambridge on 10 May to raise funds for 209Radio. If you move particularly fast, you might even be able to catch it all...

Meanwhile for more music to your ears, our next radio show of highlights, recommendations and reviews is at 5.30 on Thursday 8 May, with, as always, the most recent show becoming available the following day as a podcast via the link above right. And, of course, if you're a musician yourself (or a promoter), you can also add your own professional details to our directory, or post your own gig listings in our fully searchable online events calendar.

REVIEW: MILES HUNT + SAM INGLIS

'Not being well-acquainted with The Wonder Stuff, but having recently become thoroughly acquainted with Sam Inglis’s quite brilliant oeuvre, rendered myself perhaps unique in the audience in hearing Sam’s numbers as old classics, Miles’s old hits as fresh numbers.'

Rychard Carrington sets out to review Miles Hunt, but gets inordinately distracted by the quality of the support... more »
